Our Research Vision
Molecular Electrocatalysis for Energy Application and Chemical Transformations.
The huge worldwide demand for electrical energy conjugated to the increasing threat of today's anthropogenic climate change due to heavy burning of fossil fuels, encourage a strong shift towards renewable and environmentally benign sources of energy. Advances in the performance of renewable energies provide a source of clean electricity that is increasingly available at continuously lower costs. However, this increased penetration of intermittent renewable electricity sources requires the availability of large-scale, flexible and long-term (seasonal) storage. Such energy storage can only be accomplished through the energy density of chemical fuels.
Our objectives
Using small molecules, molecular systems and electricity to create new chemical transformations and energy storage vectors.
Organometallic Chemistry
We use organometallic tools to pursue our goals and to decipher the reaction mechanisms during the process.
Multimetallic complexes
Develop multimetallic complexes to induce novel metal-metal cooperative reactivity during electrocatalytic transformations.
Team Player at DOGMA
La Vuelta
DOGMA stands for Design of Organometallic Molecules and Applications, a group formed by permanent members Dr. Salvador Conejero, Dr. Amor Rodriguez, Dr. Pablo RÃos and Dr. Orestes Rivada-Wheelaghan (me).
I joined the group in March 2022, here I combine organometallic and coordination chemistry tools (from which the group is expert) with the benefits of molecular electrochemistry. Aiming to expand the capacity and application of molecular systems with a new research line targeting Molecular Electrocatalysis for Energy Application and Chemical Transformation
Ramón y Cajal Fellow 2020
New Research Line at the IIQ
In 2020, I became Ramón y Cajal Fellow and returned to the Instituto de Investigaciones QuÃmicas (IIQ) at Universidad de Sevilla (Spain). Here, I have joined the Design of Organometallic Molecules and Applications group DOGMA and created a new research line: Molecular Electrocatalysis for Energy Application and Chemical Transformations.

Junior MOPGA Laureate
What is MOPGA?
MOPGA stands for Make Our Planet Great Again, an initiative of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, launched on 1st June 2017 following the decision of the United States to leave the Paris Agreement on the climate.
Through this call, researchers involved in Earth Systems, Climate Change and Energy Transition have been mobilized to join France to lead the fight against climate change.
Reactivity and Catalysis using Electron Transfers
The REACTE Team, led by Prof. Marc Robert, was our host and support. I managed and led the organometallic synthetic lab of the REACTE Team at the Laboratoire d'Electrochimie Moléculaire (LEM), Université de Paris. Here, I have expanded my knowledge, learning the theoretical background and experimental techniques used in molecular electrochemistry. Now REACTE is our strongest collaborator.
